OEI is looking to fill a managerial position serving as a key technical resource in its Cedar Knolls, NJ office with the addition of an engineer with at least 10 years of geotechnical engineering or engineering geology experience inclusive of design and evaluation of deep, shallow and innovative foundation systems, retaining structures, slopes, ground improvement, earthquake engineering, underpinning design, landfill design and closure and other geotechnical features to support buildings, bridges, tunnels, roadways and dams. 

This position requires knowledge and experience with geotechnical instrumentation including but not limited to settlement gauges, piezometers, inclinometers, strain gauges, etc. from the design of an initial monitoring system to instrument procurement, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, data management and data assessment.

The prospective candidate shall be a licensed professional engineer experienced in the development of geotechnical reports, construction plans and specifications, as well as construction administration of public and private construction projects. The candidate shall have experience in project management, client management, proposal development and business development. 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience with a MS in Geotechnical Engineering, PhD a plus. This individual will provide high-end technical leadership on complex projects. Strong analytical experience is required in the areas including, soil and rock, slope stability analysis, earth retention-systems, deep foundation design, soil improvement techniques, underpinning design, seismic design and pavement design. Experience is required in leading technical projects, directing multi-functional teams and developing and mentoring junior staff.  The applicant is expected to manage challenging geotechnical projects in the NY metropolitan area and overseas.

  • MS Degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering), PhD a plus and from accredited U.S. University

  • PE registration in New Jersey and New York

We are currently seeking a Geotechnical Staff Engineer to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse projects.  This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients.

Qualified professionals will have:

  • BS in Civil Engineering from accredited U.S. University with specialty in geotechnical engineering or Engineering Geology, MS degree a plus

  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to see projects through to completion are a must

  • Entry to 2 years relevant experience, E.I.T preferred; Experience preferred

  • Good communication, planning and organizational skills

  • Willing to work in the field or office as workload demands

  • Willing to collaborate with project team and clients

  • U.S. Citizenship or valid Alien Resident Status

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook);

  • Working knowledge of geotechnical engineering software such as Lpile, Apile, Slope, Group

  • Ability to become proficient at using firm's field-testing equipment, including nuclear gauge, and other equipment;

  • Ability to prepare accurate daily field and boring logs as well as other types of reports and meet required deadlines for completion;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • The candidate shall also have experience reading plans, understanding construction specifications and drawings and in quality control on earthwork or deep foundation construction projects.

  • Valid Driver's License.


The successful candidate will work in applying geotechnical engineering techniques, procedures, and principles on a variety of engineering and environmental projects such as buildings, bridges, tunnels and landfills.   Candidate should have full understanding and experience in Soil Identification and Classification and preparation of logs of borings and test pits, a thorough  understanding of soil mechanics fundamentals such as effective stress, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, earth structures, knowledge and experience in instrumentation, construction monitoring, geotechnical investigations and soils laboratory testing, conducting environmental investigations, including soil and groundwater sampling.  The candidate will reduce, analyze, and report field, instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data, contribute to proposals and cost estimates, support preparation of reports, preparing boring logs and other client deliverables.

This position will require the ability to work both independently and in teams, and to be skilled in thinking innovatively to provide efficient solutions to complex geotechnical problems.
