ISSA OWEIS, PhD, P.E.

Chief Engineer

Dr. Oweis is the chief engineer at Oweis Engineering Inc., formerly the president of Converse Consultants Inc., and adjunct professor at NJIT and Rutgers University.  He graduated with a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. 

 

He serves as a principal in charge of major geotechnical assignments.  Dr. Oweis was the editor and principal author of the revised (current version) of NAVFAC DM-7.  He wrote a portion of the guidance document on dredged sediments for PANYNJ and is the author of the text book "Geotechnology of Waste Management.

 

Dr. Oweis is the author or co-author of over 70 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of geotechnical engineering, seismic site response, soil dynamics, and environmental geotechnology.  

 

Dr. Oweis’ project experience includes providing geotechnical and geo-environmental analysis and design for roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, rail stations, airports, landfills, and building structures in the metropolitan New York/New Jersey area, nationwide and worldwide. 

 

Some of his innovative solutions to geotechnical and environmental problems have resulted in significant cost savings to clients and owners.
