Oweis Engineering Inc. provided geotechnical engineering and stormwater management field investigation services for a proposed residential development of a former farm site. Responsibilities with respect to stormwater management were comprised of preparation and implementation of field investigations including soil borings, test pits, and field permeability testing in accordance with the NJ Regulations and the NJ Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP) Manual, and preparation of geotechnical and stormwater management summary reports for three proposed Bio Retention basins. Quality control services were conducted required for construction of bio-retention basins including laboratory testing for subgrade soil, sand layer, topsoil media layer and field monitoring documented and required for construction.
The project also consists of construction two apartment buildings, one club house, a maintenance building, parking structures and a pool and associated retaining walls. The geotechnical investigation program required performing 37 soil borings and 20 test pits. The average depth of the soil borings was 20ft below ground surface. Based on the results of the investigation, recommendations were provided to support the structures on shallow foundations after excavation of unsuitable fill material and replacement with structural fill. During construction soil wet of optimum moisture content was treated with lime to reduce the moisture content and onsite materials were re-used successfully extending much savings to the client.
