Oweis Engineering Inc. is providing geotechnical engineering services for a multi-year term agreement with the NYC Parks Department to provide Landscape Architecture Design Services, prepare construction documents, and obtain contractor bids. The Red Hook Recreational Area Remediation was awarded to our team to provide for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Red Hook Recreational area in four phases.
Phase 1 includes elevating the area by approximately 3 feet, reconstructing Ball Fields 5 to 8 and soccer field 7 with synthetic turf, new bleachers and seating areas, and construction of a planting area surrounding the fields that incorporates bio swales and other Green Infrastructure practices.
Phase 2 includes reconstructing Ball Field 9 and Soccer Field 2 with synthetic turf, a waterfront plaza and seating area, and the reconstruction of the Henry Street Basin bulkhead.
Phase 3 includes elevating the area approximately 3 feet, the reconstruction of Soccer field 3, Ball fields 1 to 4 with synthetic turf, and constructing new retaining walls around the perimeter of the site.
Phase 4 includes the reconstruction of soccer fields 1 and 6 with synthetic turf.
Geotechnical services for the project included preparation and implementation of field investigations including soil borings, test pits, and field permeability testing in accordance with the NYCDEP GI Practices, analyses of site settlements and surcharging requirements, analyses of shallow and deep foundations, floodwall and bulkhead design alternatives, and preparation of geotechnical reports, contract plans and technical specifications.
Design services for phase 1 and phase 2 have been completed and the projects are out to bid for construction with an expected completion date in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
Design services for Phase 3 are currently underway with an expected bid date for construction in early 2019. Design and construction of Phase 4 is estimated to be complete by 2023. The overall combined construction budget for the four-phase project is expected to exceed 40 million dollars.
